Endovenous Radiofrequency Treatment
Radiofrequency ablation is performed on an outpatient basis in our office under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance. The physician positions a catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall causing the vein to shrink and seal closed. Once the vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site and the leg is wrapped for additional compression. You are encouraged to walk and most patients resume normal activities that day. You are asked to refrain from strenuous activities for about a week. Compression hose are worn post-operatively for three weeks. *Covered by most insurance providers
Ambulatory phlebectomy is a microsurgical procedure designed to remove secondary varicose veins. Performed on an outpatient basis in the physician’s office under local anesthesia, a series of small avulsions are made in the skin adjacent to the vein; the diseased veins are then removed in segments. The skin is closed with surgical glue – sutures are not required. There is little to no permanent scarring. A bandage is placed on the incision sites and leg. Compression hose are worn post-operatively for three weeks. Patients typically return to their normal activities that day. Recovery is quick and relatively painless achieving outstanding cosmetic results. *Covered by insurance providers.
Light Guided Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is commonly used for treating spider veins and small varicose veins. It involves the injection of a FDA-approved sclerosing solution (a mixture of saline and Sotradecol®), which causes chemical endovenous ablation of the vein, which collapses and diminishes in appearance. Sclerotherapy can be ultrasound guided, often called echoschlerotherapy, or it can be performed using a transdermal illuminating light. In Light Guided Sclerotherapy, a high-intensity, LED-lit hand piece allows the practitioner to pinpoint and anchor peripheral veins for direct and accurate injecting of the sclerosing solution. Compression hose are highly recommended post-treatment.
